Young Invercargill racer Damon Leitch aims to make TRS 2013 his most competitive ever and he has his sights set firmly on the title.

He plans to maintain his recent karting form and establish himself firmly in the opening rounds on the South Island circuits he knows so well and to then continue this momentum all the way to the finale and the prestigious New Zealand Grand Prix event.

In the 2012 series, Leitch established a points lead after the opening round at his ‘home’ track, Teretonga, and he continued his strong opening performance by producing consistent point scoring drives to eventually finish third in the championship.  Along the way a win, five podium appearances and two fastest laps highlighted Damon’s speed in the most competitive international TRS field ever assembled.

Leitch has announced that Post Haste Couriers are returning to support his 2013 campaign as well as long-standing sponsors Southern Institute of Technology’s Zero Fees student recruitment programme, Southern Paints PPG and his hometown business supporters.

His 2013 series goals are set: “I want to be even more consistent, win as many races as possible while my eyes remain focussed on a series win.”

In assist his preparation for TRS Leitch has been karting, earning second overall in the recent South Island Championships as well as working hard on his fitness which he says will see him enter TRS 2013 in the best shape ever.

He will also complete some mileage in a similar car to the series’ FT40 chassis to build his track form as the start of the series approaches.

Damon Leitch will again race with Nelson-based Victory Motor Racing, joining Te Puke youngster Michael Scott who recently announced plans to contest the series.

The Toyota Racing Series is New Zealand’s premier international category and the only series that offers aspiring local racers the chance to compete in modern ‘wings-and-slicks’ open-wheel race cars against rising international drivers before heading offshore to the next step in their careers. For the international drivers, the series offers five weeks of intense racing action that propels them back into their northern hemisphere seasons ready to win races and championships.
